Caylus

Caylus

Once upon a time ...
1289. To strengthen the borders of the Kingdom of France, King Philip the Fair decided to have a new castle built. For the time being, Caylus is but a humble village, but soon, workers and craftsmen will be flocking by the cartload, attracted by the great prospects. Around the building site, a city is slowly rising up.

The players embody master builders. By building the King's castle and developing the city around it, they earn prestige points and gain the King's favor. When the castle is finished, the player who has earned the most prestige wins the game.

In Caylus players are helping to build a castle whilst building up the town around it. Each player is granted up to 6 actions per turn, as long as they can afford it. Actions are determined by the buildings placed on the board (some of the buildings grant the action of building a building) with a few buildings printed on the board. Each worker placed on a building will cost at least one gold, plus additional gold for each player who has already passed. If a player's building is used by another player the owner is granted a point and gold, and since most buildings are unique players are carefully considering what to build and what to use. Each building built grants points, as does building onto the castle. At the end of the game the player with the most points wins.
