Munchkin

Munchkin

Publisher's Description
Go down in the dungeon. Kill everything you meet. Backstab your friends and steal their stuff. Grab the treasure and run.

Admit it. You love it.

This award-winning card game, designed by Steve Jackson, captures the essence of the dungeon experience... with none of that stupid roleplaying stuff. You and your friends compete to kill monsters and grab magic items. And what magic items! Don the Horny Helmet and the Boots of Butt-Kicking. Wield the Staff of Napalm... or maybe the Chainsaw of Bloody Dismemberment. Start by slaughtering the Potted Plant and the Drooling Slime, and work your way up to the Plutonium Dragon...

And it's illustrated by John Kovalic! Fast-playing and silly, Munchkin can reduce any roleplaying group to hysteria. And, while they're laughing, you can steal their stuff.

This game is vicious riot. Players take on the roles of "level one humans with no class" and the humor goes on from there. The theme plays up the stereotypical dungeon crawl backed by mechanics that have you kicking down doors, killing monsters, and taking their stuff. The first person to level 10 wins the game, but with all the backstabbing opportunities in this game it's not likely you'll get to level 10 without someone forcing some Bad Stuff to happen to you. Players can interfere to help you (by distracting monsters or making them weaker) or hurt you (by adding monsters or making them tougher).

The lightness of the cards and the snarky rules help to alleviate the backstabbing pain. Best played in larger groups of good friends who can be cruel without being mean. Best played with people with a good and dry sense of humor.
